Position Overview
The Director of Marketing and Communications serves as the chief marketing and communications officer for Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), one of the world’s largest business-focused career student organizations. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive, data-informed marketing and communications strategy that elevates FBLA’s brand, strengthens stakeholder engagement, and supports revenue growth, registrations, and organizational visibility. This role leads a team of two professional staff and external vendors and requires a leader who is both strategic and highly execution oriented. The Director also partners closely with fundraising and partnership functions to support donor cultivation, sponsorship outreach, and revenue-generating initiatives through strategic messaging, storytelling, and integrated campaigns.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Brand Management
Develop and execute an integrated marketing and communications strategy that strengthens FBLA’s brand, expands program awareness, and drives engagement, registrations, and revenue.
Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership to align organizational priorities, messaging, and annual communications calendars.
Serve as a brand steward and ambassador, ensuring consistent and proper use of FBLA’s brand standards, naming conventions, and visual identity.
Partner with fundraising and partnership leadership to align brand strategy and outreach efforts that support sponsorship growth and donor engagement.
Event and Public Relations Marketing
Lead marketing and communications strategy for national conferences and major events, ensuring cohesive branding, compelling storytelling, & strong participant engagement.
Oversee event scripting and work closely with production vendors to support high-quality national event execution.
Serve as the primary media contact, developing public relations strategies, cultivating media relationships, and securing coverage for FBLA programs, initiatives, & announcements.
Digital, Social Media, and Content Management
Oversee content strategy and development across all platforms, including social media, email, press releases, and the FBLA website.
Manage and optimize the FBLA website, including content governance, performance analytics, and SEO strategies.
Develop and execute social media strategies that drive engagement, responsiveness, and brand growth.
FBLA Shop / Online Store
Lead annual merchandising and promotional calendars in alignment with organizational priorities and events.
Drive revenue through strategic promotions and integrated marketing campaigns.
Collaborate with operations leadership to assess and refine product offerings, merchandising approaches, and fulfillment processes.
Development, Sponsorship, and Outreach Support
Collaborate with fundraising and partnership teams to support fundraising and sponsorship initiatives through strategic messaging, campaign support, and outreach materials.
Develop donor- and sponsor-facing assets, including proposals, pitch decks, impact reports, stewardship communications, and recognition materials.
Support integrated campaigns tied to sponsorships, events, and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment between marketing, communications, and revenue goals.
Prepare executive-level communications, presentations, and talking points for donor, sponsor, and partner meetings.
Translate program outcomes and impact data into compelling narratives that demonstrate value and return on investment for funders and partners.
Team, Vendor, and Budget Oversight
Lead, mentor, and evaluate marketing and communications staff.
Manage relationships with external marketing and communications agencies and vendors, including contract oversight and performance management.
Support the development and management of the annual marketing and communications budget.
Process Development and Performance Tracking
Establish standards, processes, & best practices for internal & external communications.
Partner with leadership and internal teams to develop comprehensive communications plans for national conferences, programs, and initiatives.
Support stakeholder meetings through presentations & documentation, as needed.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, donors, sponsors, and strategic partners to advance FBLA’s mission and strategic priorities.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in marketing and communications.
Demonstrated success leading metrics-driven marketing efforts that support revenue, registrations, and brand growth.
3–5 years of people management experience.
Experience supporting fundraising, sponsorship, or revenue-generating initiatives through marketing and communications.
Experience managing digital platforms, publications, and online retail operations.
Strong project management, writing, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
A collaborative, high-energy leader comfortable operating at both strategic and tactical
Occasional travel (5-15%) and support events on behalf of the association.
Occasional evening or weekend availability (5-15%) may be required during peak times.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Travel Requirements
Attendance at two National Leadership Conferences, typically held in May and June, is required. Additional travel may be requested based on role and organizational needs.
