Position Summary: The Executive Director (ED) will be a visionary leader responsible for owning and driving the strategic direction of USBG and NCF. This individual will be instrumental in enhancing program alignment with the mission, growing the financial position for long-term sustainability, and refining advocacy and education initiatives. The ED will play a key role in rebuilding and expanding the community, increasing membership, and launching and optimizing the USBG Academy.
Responsibilities
Mission Alignment:
Ensure all programs, services, and products align with the USBG and NCF mission.
Continuously adapt existing programs for better unity and fulfillment of the USBG mission.
Identify, create, develop, and implement new measurable programming to fit the needs of the membership.
Leadership and Understanding of Mission:
Understand the hospitality industry's multifaceted nature and fluid dynamics and how to implement value-added membership programming to deliver the benefits of membership to the USBG.
Lead best in classcommunity building, launch the USBG Academy, and advise, implement, and augment all advocacy efforts.
Clearly communicate and own the USBG value to engage, retain, and attract members.
Engage and identify volunteers to fill the leadership pipeline.
Advocacy and Education Focus:
As directed by the Guild Board of Directors, strategize, implement, and lead advocacy programs with specific stretch goals relevant to the USBG mission.
Advise, implement, and expand educational programs, focusing on hospitality career pathing, skills-based learning, and competency building.
Financial Sustainability:
Address financial challenges by identifying and exploring new revenue streams, risk mitigation, and sustainable sources.
Develop strategies balancing sponsor and partner interests with membership needs.
Review, revise, and recommend updates to existing revenue centers to align with strategic goals and long-term financial strategies.
Community Building and Membership Growth:
Continue to build the USBG community by determining what members want and fostering stronger educational programs, partnerships, and advocacy initiatives.
Annually increase membership through targeted recruitment and engagement strategies.
Identify attrition factors and build a plan to retain current members.
Expand reach through a robust recruitment plan to increase membership.
Strategic Planning:
Provide visionary leadership and strategic guidance to further the USBG’s mission.
Collaborate with all stakeholders to shape the USBG and NCF's strategic goals and growth forecast.
Develop & implement marketing & brand plan alignment for internal & external distribution.
Advise, develop, and establish value propositions for each membership class.
Financial Management:
Identify and explore alternative revenue formulas and innovative financial stability and growth approaches.
Develop and drive initiatives to increase corporate partner support, secure new partnerships, and diversify revenue sources.
Manage and make recommendations on current assets & investment products to align with USBG's mission and long-term objectives.
Board Collaboration:
Foster a strong working relationship with the Board through open communication and transparency.
Collaborate with the Board on strategic vision and organizational evolution.
Advise the Board on current non-profit, association, and administrative trends & technologies.
Human Resources Management:
Manage a dedicated staff of both full-time employees and consultants.
Provide staff with opportunities for training, coaching, and mentoring.
Commit and execute effective feedback through practices such as performance reviews and one on ones with staff members.
Address HR challenges by fostering a positive workplace culture and implementing existing HR policies.
Empower and motivatestaff through inspirational and collaborative leadership.
Communication Strategies:
Act as the key public speaker (internally and externally), building relationships and increasing organizational visibility.
Design and implement effective communication strategies aligned with member preferences and current technologies.
Point of contact with external consultants in Marketing and Communication.
Core Values and Cultural Integration:
Evaluate and refine core values to reflect the evolving hospitality industry.
Integrate into the existing hospitality industry culture while intuitively, thoughtfully, and strategically guiding the association through cultural shifts.
Identify and advise on both collaborative opportunities and competitive challenges to the organization.
