Job Overview
The American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager of Membership to create and implement initiatives that enhance the overall member experience, increase engagement, improve retention, and expand member benefits. This role is responsible for executing membership growth strategies, overseeing the member database and online member community, managing chapter compliance and supporting chapter leaders, and leveraging data analytics to inform decision-making. Reporting to the Deputy Director/COO, the Senior Manager will participate in membership strategy discussions and is responsible for translating identified strategies into actionable programs. The Senior Manager will work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with AMWA’s mission and member value proposition.
Key Responsibilities:
Membership Program Management, Growth, and Retention – Execute data-driven recruitment and retention initiatives and analyze membership trends to inform efforts. Oversee career services, including AMWA’s Freelance Directory and Job Center.
Member Experience and Engagement – Enhance and promote member benefits, manage AMWA’s online community, optimize onboarding and member recognition activities, and work collaboratively across departments to ensure a cohesive approach to member engagement and retention.
Chapter & Volunteer Relations – Support chapter leaders and volunteers, oversee the Call for Volunteers process, and implement leadership development initiatives. Serve as staff liaison to chapter and volunteer committees as assigned.
Membership Systems, Data Analysis, and Reporting – Serve as the lead administrator for AMWA’s association management system (AMS), create reports to track key membership and revenue metrics, and support integrations with other platforms for a cohesive member experience and data integrity.
The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in leading membership programs, managing member databases, analyzing data to inform decision making, and developing engagement strategies within an association setting. Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree required.
5+ years of management experience in membership, association operations, data analytics, CRM systems, and AMS/membership databases.
Proven ability to implement successful membership growth and retention strategies.
Experience working with and supporting chapter leaders and engaging volunteers.
Ability to execute member benefits that provide real value and drive engagement.
Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to translate strategic guidance into actionable membership programs.
Ability to travel to annual conference and occasionally to other organizational events.
Experience in a professional, medical, or scientific association is preferred.
