GENERAL SUMMARY: The Education Manager is responsible for the design, development, support and execution of high-quality, innovative learning experiences in a variety of learning environments for ALA members and prospective members that support their professional development needs at different stages of their careers. Anchored by ALA’s Certified Legal Manager (CLM)® designation, the Education Manager will ensure that all educational programs provide pathways for legal administrators to grow as professionals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Design Duties
Maintains and builds a deep knowledge of trends and best practices in instructional design and applies knowledge toward strengthening ALA’s educational offerings.
Regularly evaluates and recommends new and/or enhancements to existing educational programs, instructional formats, and learning environments (e.g. in-person events, webinars, online courses, certification curriculum). Provides quarterly and year-end analytics on the status of ALA’s educational offerings.
Assist in the development of instructional formats and learning objectives for desired learning solutions.
Develops and grows a Body of Knowledge (BoK) for ALA that informs the design of all educational programs and positions the Association as the go-to educational resource for legal administrators. a working understanding of unfamiliar subjects and information in order to create relevant education for ALA members.
Assists in the development of instructional formats and learning objectives for desired learning solutions.
Serves as the point person for communicating with and guiding learners in understanding the benefits of the variety of, registering for, completing and receiving credit for ALA’s educational offerings.
Works closely with the Marketing and Communications team, Senior Director and internal teams to develop a strategies and plans for promoting educational and professional development offerings throughout the year to reach participation and revenue targets.
Creates, maintains, updates and distributes resources (e.g., videos, toolkits, guides) to aid learners in achieving successful educational outcomes. navigating online systems and other supporting materials/media (audio, video, toolkit, etc.) as requested.
Collaborates with subject matter experts (as applicable) to determine the appropriate delivery strategies for target audiences. Provides guidance for content creation.
Manages the ALA speaker database, the speaker agreement process and session, program evaluations. Recommends amendments to speaker-related policies to align with association management best practices.
Ensures ongoing compliance with all accreditation requirements and guidelines for ALA’s Certified Legal Manager (CLM)® program.
Maintains and manages all functions of ALA’s learning management system (LMS) — including, but not limited to, registration, profiles, course content, course setup, reporting, creating and maintaining documentation of all related processes. Educates staff on the functions of the LMS.
As needed, performs onsite responsibilities during conferences and other educational programs.
Proposes and monitors assigned ALA education-related budgets, conduct periodic tracking and reporting of revenues and expenses.
Manages and maintains online, webinar, web-based courses and e-learning website pages.
Serves as staff liaison to committees/project teams.
Contributes to the maintenance of learning materials as required.
Subject Matter Expert and Third-Party Vendor Management Duties
Collaborates with subject matter experts (as applicable) to determine the appropriate delivery strategies for target audiences.
Manages internal and outsourced activities related to planning, development, implementation and evaluation of all in-person and virtual educational programs offered by the Association.
Solicits, coordinates and directs subject matter experts to script original content, vet ideas and improve drafts.
Coordinates with other ALA staff and contractors to market and implement the online, webinar, web-based courses and e-learning educational programs.
Manages the ALA speaker database, the speaker agreement process and session evaluations.
Recommends amendments to speaker-related policies in an effort to align with association management best practices.
Certified Legal Manager Program Management Duties
Ensures ongoing compliance with all accreditation requirements and guidelines.
Grows and promotes the Certified Legal Manager program.
Administrative Duties
Maintains and manages all functions of ALA’s learning management system (LMS) — including, but not limited to, registration, profiles, course content, course setup, reporting and create and maintain documentation of all related processes.
Educates the staff on the functions of the learning management system and advocate for its use when appropriate.
Manages and maintains online, webinar, web-based course and e-learning website pages.
As needed, performs onsite activities during conferences and other educational programs.
Proposes and monitors assigned ALA education-related budgets, conduct periodical tracking and reporting of revenues and expenses.
Reviews and approves banquet, audio-visual and similar expenses incurred in conjunction with any in-person meetings.
Develops quarterly and year-end data reports analyzing ALA’s educational offerings.
Supervises and directs all activities related to planning, development, implementation and evaluation of all ALA Roundtables offered by the Association.
Serves as staff liaison to various committees/project teams.
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Background in adult learning principles, instructional systems design and instructional product development as normally acquired through a bachelor’s degree in adult education, instructional design, instructional technology or related field. Formal instructional systems design training required.
Demonstrated 3+ years of experience developing and implementing training and education-related programs strategies for external customers.
Learning Management System (LMS) experience.
Experience with Articulate Storyline and/or other eLearning design application platforms preferred.
