AHLA is seeking a Manager, External Government Affairs on the State and Local Government Affairs Team. This position will be responsible for assisting AHLA’s state and local government affairs team on external tasks, events and initiatives. This position will work cross-functionally with the Political Affairs, Conferences & Events and Marketing & Communications teams to execute designated grassroots, political and event initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Assist the state and local regional team with executing non-lobbying duties, including but not limited to the planning, coordination and communications of state and local team meetings, events and conferences.
Assist EVP External GA and SVP State & Local GA with external duties related to member events, international ally development and other duties as assigned.
Provide logistical support for the state and local team’s participation in all stakeholder (elected official conferences) and external events such as AHLA On The Road Hotel Conferences, Owner/Leader Dinners and Local Lodging Alliances.
Coordinate with the marketing department on the planning, coordination and logistics of state and local GA teams on marketing materials for events and conferences.
On-site event support as needed.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree.
2- 3 years of experience in association management, government affairs or external relations.
Skills and Attributes:
Experienced computer and software knowledge, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, including the ability to synthesize complicated matters to appropriate audiences.
Team player with a high level of professionalism, self-motivation, and positive attitude.
A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills.
Other:
Position based in Washington, DC area.
Moderate travel is required (35-40%)
Hybrid position 3 days in office. (Mon-Wed or Tue-Thurs.)
