AHLA is seeking a full-time Labor and Workforce Policy Director on the State and Local Government Affairs Team. This position will be responsible for assisting in the development and execution of AHLA’s advocacy strategies with a specific focus on labor and workforce policy. In addition to being a member of the State & Local GA Team, this position will also work cross-functionally with the Federal Affairs, Research, and Political Affairs teams as well as the AHLA Foundation’s workforce team.
Responsibilities:
Identify and analyze state and local labor legislation and regulations that are of priority to AHLA’s membership.
Draft legislative language and public testimony.
Contribute to the development of issue campaign strategies.
Communicate relevant legislative developments to AHLA’s membership on a regular basis.
Support the Executive Vice President, External Government Affairs, and Senior Vice President, State & Local Government Affairs in all strategic initiatives.
Support AHLA’s membership engagement and development initiatives when needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in political science, communications, business management or related area, or equivalent work experience.
5 -7 years of experience in state and/or local government, trade association or labor/workforce advocacy; or a combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory process at the state and local levels.
Knowledge of public policy and metrics of labor and workforce at national and state levels.
Ability to provide current labor analysis on legislation and regulations.
Skills and Attributes:
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to write and edit clear, engaging and grammatically correct content.
Demonstrated ability to work in diverse political climates with legislators, governors, attorneys general and municipal officials and staff.
A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills.
Excellent project management skills with great attention to detail, and strong work ethic.
Self-motivated individual who is also a team player with a high level of professionalism and emotional intelligence.
Experienced computer and software knowledge, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
