The Standards Developer/Publications Manager at PHTA provides organizational and managerial support to PHTA’s standards development and technical committees and supports the Standards and Education Departments’ roles in creating safe and healthy aquatic environments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and producing a wide range of publications, including technical manuals, industry standards, guides, reports, and consumer-facing safety brochures. This is a position that requires strong project management skills and attention to detail for the successful development and maintenance of the association’s standards program which is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
We’re looking for the right candidate to work with teams of stakeholders and volunteers, both in person and remotely, to create exceptional safety standards and educational materials.
Key Responsibilities: • Assist committees in the development and maintenance of pool and hot tub standards through the accredited procedures of ANSI. • Write and edit PHTA standards, PHTA operating guidelines, and other technical documents and manuals. • Manage the production of PHTA's technical publications and education manuals, including writing, editing, and proofreading. • Develop and implement a content strategy for PHTA's publications, ensuring they are in line with industry standards and best practices. • Collaborate with subject matter experts and internal teams to gather information and ensure accuracy of technical content. • Coordinate with external vendors for printing and distribution of publications. • Develop and implement digital strategy for organizational publications. • Properly organize and maintain both electronic and paper files for the ANSI audit scheduled once every five years. • Monitor industry activity, such as published in ANSI Standards Action, to identify activities of interest to PHTA stakeholders. • Ensure ANSI compliance through managing activities such as a call to participate on a technical committee, notification of an ANSI Public Review for a standard, announcement of a new or revised published standard, etc. • Respond to consumer, member and non-member technical and standards inquiries (email and telephone) in a professional and timely manner. • Schedule/coordinate meetings (in-person, via teleconference or Internet), take minutes, compile materials, prepare handouts, manage supplies and distribute information to relevant parties. • Collaborate with other PHTA departments as necessary. • Comply with PHTA policies and procedures as well as support the PHTA Mission. • Work on special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, project management or a related field. • At least 2-3 years of project or committee management, technical writing, and publication management. • Familiarity and experience with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standardization requirements and procedures. • Trade association or related experience. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Excellent word processing skills and knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
