POSITION SUMMARY:
The SAME Communications Coordinator provides writing and editorial support for the organization’s national communication materials, to include online articles, marketing and promotional copy, website copy such as interviews and member features, email and newsletters, thought leadership pieces, and other communication products both print and digital as needed. In addition to core writing and editing responsibilities, the individual is expected to develop a strong understanding of the organization’s mission, history, programs, and strategic direction in order to be a valuable asset to an array of communications and research efforts. The position reports directly to the Communications Senior Manager, and by extension to the Director of Communications & Marketing.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

SAME Communication Support:
Writes, edits, and posts articles for SAME’s online newsroom, including event previews and recaps, interviews and spotlights, member recognitions and achievements, in-depth features, and technical-related articles for TME Online in consult with other staff and volunteer subject matter experts.
Collaborates across departments within the National Office to write, edit, and post articles and coverage highlighting national programs and activities.
Researches, writes, and edits articles to support annual marketing and awareness campaigns.
Coordinates with guest contributors and also edits and performs QA/QC on guest contributed articles.
Edits, reviews, and posts interviews conducted with members and member companies.
Organizes and tags articles to promote cross-pollination across various communities and platforms within SAME.
Optimizes SEO, tracks analytics, and reports on engagement to increase traffic and discoverability.
Contributes to collaborative discussions with other marketing/communications team members and rest of National Office staff.
Supports the production and distribution of other SAME communication products as needed.
Departmental Support:
Assists in copywriting, editing, and reviewing content to contribute to SAME social media accounts, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr, etc.
Assists in copywriting, editing, and reviewing content for the SAME App.
Supports QA/QC on national website content to enforce editorial style and consistency.
Adapts printed communication products for digital consumption as needed.
Works with marketing/communication personnel to develop, research, write, and post revenue-driven content and media (e.g., sponsored articles and videos)
Works with marketing/communication personnel to create new story-telling vehicles that highlight SAME’s members and the Society’s programs, history, and impact.
Supports SAME historical research needs.
Contributes to social media coverage and reporting for national events.
Assists in reviewing marketing emails for tone, style, and content.
Contributes content to and assists in editing/proofreading SAME’s monthly e-newsletter.
Organizational Support:
Assists in editing and proofreading flyers, marketing materials, and other communications as needed for SAME Foundation fundraising efforts.
Assists in editing and reviewing press releases for SAME national events, award winners, new Fellows, etc.
Assists in editing and reviewing webinar descriptions, website copy, flyers, and other communication materials as needed for SAME national programs.
Coordinates with National Office program managers to ensure proper promotion of activities, with a focus on creating deliverables that promote SAME’s and members’ impact.
Provides writing/editing/research support to each department within the National Office.
Stays abreast of industry trends to be a resource both inside and outside the National Office.
Willingness to learn and grow new communications-related capabilities to support evolving organizational needs (e.g., podcast editing, video work, web features, etc.).
Supports National Office matrix teams and overall priority areas in areas outside core work responsibilities, such as working onsite at national events.
EXPERIENCE:
One to two years of experience working in professional writing, editing, communications, and marketing in online media.
Experience with professional associations or A/E/C industry a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Excellent professional writing, editing, proofreading, and research skills.
Creative, agile, and adaptable thinker who is able to develop engaging and accessible ways to share messages across a variety of mediums.
Ability to work in a team environment, take constructive criticism, and collaborate across departments.
Strong analytical skills, with an ability to synthesize high-level topics for a diverse audience.
Fluency in word processing programs and in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Strong proficiency with Wordpress.
Proficiency with Google Analytics and SEO optimization.
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
Familiarity with Salesforce a plus.
Familiarity with Canva a plus.
Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and content management systems a plus.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
Excellent attention to detail.
Knowledge of AP Stylebook standards and strong English grammar skills.
Excellent customer service skills to interact with guest contributors, public and private sector stakeholders, volunteer authors, and organization members.
