American Chemical Society (ACS) is looking for an accomplished brand evangelist and creative problem solver with deep expertise in brand alignment, integrated marketing and program management. We are seeking a visionary and imaginative creative leader to launch and lead creative services for the Society’s marketing and sales team as well as the internal creative agency, BrandLab.
The BrandLab is an award-winning custom content studio that offers branded-content and creative services Chemical & Engineering New’s advertisers, such as the creation of sponsored whitepapers and eBooks, native storytelling, and custom events. The ideal candidate is a brand champion who works cross functionally to:
Analyze and strategize on brand identity, awareness, and growth.
Lead projects in collaboration with a team of freelance creatives across graphic design, copywriting, photography, experiential, and interactive disciplines.
Inspire, generate, and develop ideas that are strategically-informed, channel agnostic, and deeply integrated between all touch-points and product experiences.
Consistently uplevel the design and quality of our craft by bringing impactful ideas to the table and seeing the best of them through to fruition with an extreme attention to detail.
Transform rough ideas and general concepts into final creative.
Partner with Marketing Managers, Editors, Event Managers, and Program leads and freelance talent to guide and develop work that is of the highest quality and greatest consistency.
Oversee and provide art direction for photography shoots and illustration work, as needed.
Ensure that deliverables adhere to strategic brief, vision and intention.
Ensure quality and timely creative production and communication with creative teammates, company partners, and external clients.
Coordinate, collaborate and align key partners for optimal creative product that pushes our business forward.

Proactively identify and solve the most complex problems that impact our creative mission.
Negotiate with senior leadership, customers or agency partners to influence decisions across areas.
Desired Skills, Education, & Experience:
10+ years design and creative direction experience, preferably a mix of product and brand-side in-house experience with global companies.
Portfolio is packed with innovative, impactful and acclaimed work that demonstrates your ability to lead and develop designs that resonate culturally and influence business results.
Collaborative in nature, both within the department and beyond.
A strong design process and experience working toward solutions across various media.
Flexibility and dependability.
Incredible organization, communication, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
Empathy for the customer, and empathy for individuals on a creative team.

This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
