We have an exciting opportunity for a high energy and creative Donor Relations Specialist to join our growing ASME Foundation team, working in a hybrid role in our Washington, D.C. Office.
The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing engagement and fundraising strategies to enhance and grow revenue from ASME’s current and prospective donor communities, both individual and institutional. A key focus of the Donor Relations Specialist will be the organization and oversight of current and prospective donor data, including prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, and stewardship.
Responsibilities will include:
Work with the Director, Major Gifts to assist in day-to-day fundraising and operational support, including preparation of agendas, decks, meeting scheduling, note taking, ordering swag and collateral materials as necessary.
Manage donor relations processes regarding acknowledgement, recognition, ongoing communications, and continued cultivation of past, current and prospective donors.
Provide professional assistance and interaction with donors (via phone, computer and in person).
Maintain accurate donor information in Salesforce.
Assist in research of prospects, including detailed background information, giving history, personal interests, and request strategies using a data-driven approach.
Conduct queries as needed for mailing lists, donor and volunteer recognition and fundraising efforts.
Identify opportunities for major individual and institutional giving that closely align with ASME’s philanthropic objectives and mission.
Identify potential new donors through monthly cold outreach using our dedicated wealth screening tool Donor Search.
Assist in donor cultivation by identifying donors who live within a specific radius of special events (i.e. Efx, E-Fest, I-SHOW) and extend invitations to attend.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or additional equivalent experience, with a minimum of 2 years’ nonprofit donor relations experience. Successful candidates will have the ability to work entrepreneurially and as an integral part of a growing team.
Technical Skills:
Must have experience working with a contact database (preferably Salesforce) and be proficient in Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint. Knowledge of customer relationship management (CRM).
Communication:
Exceptional verbal, written skills are required, including writing, editing, proofreading.
PowerPoint skills in creating presentations, including text and visuals a must.
Project Management:
Ability to concurrently manage multiple work streams and overlapping deadlines is required.
Attention to detail is critical to this role.
Collaboration:
Collaboration across a broad range of ASME staff, volunteers and partners will be critical to in the cultivation of corporate and foundation relationships.
Experience in development of cross-channel donor acquisition strategies.
Diplomacy:
Fundraising is a delicate path of relationship building — candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and a sensitivity to protocols.
