The Executive Vice President (EVP) shall serve as the chief executive officer and is responsible to the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, and the President for the effective conduct of the affairs of the Association.The EVP recommends and participates in formulation of Association mission, goals, objectives, and related policies.Within the framework of the Association the EVP: plans, organizes, coordinates, controls, and directs the activities of the Association.All staff personnel (other than the Executive Vice President) will be recruited, hired, directed, evaluated, developed and/or terminated by the Executive Vice President.
Overview of responsibilities:
Lead the on-going effort to maintain and protect the best possible working environment for the industry by involvement in the Association’s regulatory and legislative efforts
Effectively grow the membership each year
Lead and develop PCOC staff
Ensure the professional image of the PCOC is developed and maintained.
Lead implementation efforts in accordance with the vision and mission of PCOC’s elected leadership.
Drive member participation with Association events and activities
Negotiate and build relationships with members, suppliers, other related trade associations, and industry leaders
Maintain a high level of engagement within the industry
Negotiate and secure sponsorships
Encourage the work of committees, volunteers, and lobbyist
Make certain that the Association’s business is run efficiently through utilization of technology and all available resources
Direct the meetings and affairs of the Board of Directors
Oversee all activities of the association
Act as PCOC’s public spokesperson
Duties of the Executive Vice President
Act as the Chief Executive Officer of the Association and its subsidiaries.
Support the Board in setting, clarifying and evaluating goals and objectives.
Assist the Board in developing strategic short and long-term plans.
Implement the Association’s goals, objectives and strategic plans.
Responsible for the preparation and timely submission of reports to the Executive Committee and Board.
Recruit, hires, train, develop, counsel and direct staff to accomplish established goals of the association.
Promote cooperation and teamwork among staff.Establish high standards of conduct and job performance and lead by example.
Ensures that job descriptions are developed and that annual job performance evaluations are held and documented.
Provide training to encourage competency and professional development.
Through personal performance and example, instill feelings of trust, dependability and a stable work environment to encourage staff productivity.
Assign staff, as needed, to meet deadlines.
Prioritize staff tasks, as necessary, to ensure timely completion.
Assure decisions made by staff reflect the organization’s goals, procedures and are in harmony with the association’s strategic goals.
Efficiently operate programs, events, workshops, and publications in accordance with good business practices and in compliance with contractual obligations.
Seek new program opportunities and develop them as appropriate.
Ensure successful planning and implementation of annual expo, quarterly Board of Directors meeting, annual legislative day, and other events as scheduled.
Responsible for setting and reporting on results of performance goals.
Provide assistance as needed to President, Executive Committee, and Board members in planning and executing association programs.
Oversee the arrangements of accommodations for Executive Committee at Board Meetings and Expo.
Provide regular reports to Executive Committee and Board on program success and future programming needs.
Ensure compliance with all government requirements and other administrative, fiscal and legal responsibilities.
Manage process of development of annual budget.Manage the budgeting process and maintain an awareness at all times of the association’s cash flow position and prepares narrative for the Treasurer’s Report to the Executive Committee and Board.
Maintain official records and documents including but not limited to expense reports, bank statements, credit card report(s) and investment portfolio(s)
Provide oversight to assure organization and its subsidiaries financial statements are accurate.
Protect and maintain all Association assets. Assets include, but are not limited to land, building, vehicles and investments. Ensure that grounds, building, and vehicles are maintained and professional.
Board & Member Management
Work with Board members to build and maintain a vital Committee structure to ensure PCOC objectives.
Foster communication between Executive Committee & Board with committees to ensure appropriate reporting and decision-making in a timely yet participatory fashion.
Ensure information and decisions are communicated appropriately among Executive Committee, Board and Staff.
Speak at District Meetings.
Travel as needed to conduct the business of the Association
Government and Public Relations
Maintain awareness of pending legislation and regulation affecting our industry.
Maintain awareness of the political environment affecting our industry.
Coordinate effective response to pending legislation and regulations.
Act as official spokesperson for the Association, representing the programs and point of view of the organization to the media, legislature, government agencies, organizations and the general public.
Manage PCOC’s Legislative Team of Lobbyists and coordinates with the Legislative Committee.
Serve in a proactive manner to promote PCOC and the Industry to the Legislature, Structural Pest Control Board, County Ag Commissioners, Department of Pesticide Regulations, the public, and media.
Provide timely and accurate responses to requests for Information about PCOC.
