SUMMARY:
The Manager - Market & Competitive Intelligence is responsible for managing key market, customer, and competitive intelligence initiatives from inception to organizational impact. The individual must have strong communication, stakeholder management, and analytical skills to deliver research insights and recommendations. The ability to collaborate with and influence associates across the organization is a must, which requires deep knowledge of our business models. Ideal candidates have experience managing CI automation tools and understand the multifaceted competitive and cooperative relationships that membership associations balance daily.
KEY RESPONISBILITIES:
- Manage M&CI research tool to monitor global trends and competitor activity to prepare and deliver dashboards, executive summaries, and newsletters to key business partners and association leaders
- Conduct research on specific markets, market conditions, and market sizing to inform data-led strategic initiatives
- Lead the development of recurring member value studies to identify current perceptions, competitive edge in the market, and areas of opportunity to advance enterprise strategies and deliver insights and recommendations in context for business units
- Devise, implement, and evaluate methods for collecting data, such as surveys, focus groups, questionnaires, and polls
- Work collaboratively and cross-functionally to define critical data elements for collection in customer profiles and engagement tracking to support analysis activities to inform enterprise strategies and track key performance indicators and metrics
- Collect, interpret, and present data in statistical tables, charts, and reports
- Develop and present key findings to colleagues, staff leadership, and occasionally volunteer groups/leadership through written and visual communications (charts, graphs, etc.) to make informed, customer-focused decisions
- Identify, recruit, and manage external research resources, when appropriate
- Consult with staff and serve as an internal resource and champion for available market research to ensure its value is fully leveraged to drive maximum impact
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of professional market research or competitive intelligence experience
- Experience working with an association or other member-based organization preferred

- Expert proficiency with research tools and data/resources available to inform market size and segment estimates
- Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated success at using creative competencies to solve problems
- Strong interpersonal and anticipatory skills with a collaborative and team-player mindset
- Exceptional verbal communication, professional writing, and presentation skills
- Continual learner well versed in market research and CI trends
- Ability to gather large amounts of data and convert it into meaningful, succinct insights for senior and executive-level leaders
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Energetic self-starter who can quickly adapt and thrive in a multitasking environment and meet strict deadlines
- Expert Microsoft Office skills (Word, Power Point, Excel)
- Experience using survey software systems such as Verint, Qualtrics, or others
Language Skills
Effective written, verbal, presentation development, and interpersonal communications skills as well as strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret market trends and insights that will be incorporated into data-led initiatives. A complete command of the English language, including grammar skills. Multiple language ability is an asset in any role with The IIA.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and effectively propose and execute solutions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety unstructured data to distill into keen insights for a variety of business functions with varying market needs (learning, membership, etc.).
Computer Skills
Expert ability to work in a computerized environment with a strong knowledge of most Microsoft Office products and survey software systems. Must have an aptitude to learn and implement new software tools relating to competitive intelligence.
