We are seeking a Coordinator, Section Engagement in International Markets to join the Section Operations team in the Technical & Engineering Communities (TEC) department located in our Houston, TX office. In pursuit of its mission, ASME supports volunteer groups including technical divisions, professional sections, student sections, technical chapters, affinity communities, etc. in developing and delivering programs and activities, including conferences, professional development programs (US-based and international), locally relevant content, networking opportunities, and communicating the excitement of engineering through awards and recognition.
ASME is revitalizing, with a renewed energy, the Professional and Student Sections. The Coordinator, Section Engagement is responsible for building relationships with Professional Sections in our international markets. The coordinator will establish strong relationships, build trust, visit volunteers in their local communities and represent organizational expectations. They will be part of a dynamic team that develops systems and manages opportunities for local volunteers. The team is dedicated to volunteer interactions, processing requests, approving volunteer requests, and encouraging engagement with the organization. The team approaches the volunteer leadership in a holistic fashion which will require proactively traveling to meet Professional and Student Sections throughout the world. This position will ensure that the mission and vision of ASME is at the forefront as we strengthen the staff-volunteer partnership ASME is known for throughout the world.
The person in this position should possess the following:
- Experience in working with volunteers and committees
- Experience in expanded outreach, relationship building and succession planning
- Experience in organizing programs and activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization
- Experience in facilitating local events
Ideal candidate will have a Bachelors’ degree or equivalent work experience. In addition, candidate should have:
- Experience managing multiple projects
- Flexible and adaptive to change
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written in order to communicate effectively internally and with volunteers and committees
- Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge of MS Office software
- Association/organizational governance experience a plus
- Bi-lingual a plus
- Desire to work outside 9 -5 hours; some evenings and weekends are required as is travel throughout the geographic territory
