The Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) executive director will implement the strategic vision of the incorporated, non-profit 501(c)(3) education association as defined by the TSPRA Executive Committee. In addition, the executive director will oversee and implement the day-to-day operations of the organization at its Austin-area office and is the lead staff member for the association. An important aspect of the role is to serve as TSPRA’s representative in all matters related to the association at both a state and national level.
The specific duties and responsibilities of the executive director include but are not limited to the following:
Advocate for the association, its members and for the role of school communications in schools and school districts
Provide ongoing support and resources to association members
Maintain and build new strategic relationships with public and private alliances
Manage and support the organization’s efforts to grow membership
Manage and support the organization’s efforts to grow sponsorships
Implement the organization’s bylaws by providing advice and counsel to the executive committee
Plan, manage and oversee all aspects and details of the the annual TSPRA conference including:
Identifying and scheduling high-quality speakers and presenters
Securing partnerships with sponsors
Negotiating with hotels and other vendors
Coordinating with the TSPRA executive committee leadership on conference planning
Develop resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the association
Sustain the fiscal integrity of the association through effective planning and oversight of the annual budget
Manage, update and maintain the TSPRA membership database
Plan and prepare agendas in collaboration with the president for executive committee meetings
Work collaboratively with NSPRA and state organizations on special projects and other coordinations that are mutually beneficial
Oversee and manage the TSPRA website and its social media presence
Keep the executive committee informed on key issues and operations of the organization
Hire, supervise, direct and evaluate the TSPRA staff member(s)
Coordinate awards programs
Direct the day-to-day operations of the organization
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related field
Minimum of 10 years of work experience in a related field professional capacity
Experience in managing staff in a professional capacity
Desired Qualifications
Experience in working at or managing a professional association
Certified Association Executive (CAE) credentials preferred
Experience in school communications, school administration, public relations or communications
Strong financial acumen and understanding of business operations
Exceptional organizational skills
Effective communication and interpersonal skills

The Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) is a nonprofit, professional organization dedicated to promoting public schools through effective communications. TSPRA, an award winning chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA), was chartered in 1962 and incorporated in 1977. With more than 900 members, TSPRA is comprised primarily of public information and communications professionals who serve the public school districts and education association, foundations and organizations of Texas. The membership also includes superintendents, school administrators, principals, executive directors, web/technology/electronic media and graphic professionals, teachers, school consultants, vendors and others who support public education in the state.
