The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) develops performance and other Standards for its Members in the electrical and medical imaging industries. NEMA crafts and executes advocacy campaigns and provides quantitative and qualitative analyses to assist Member companies with business decisions.
The Senior Economist develops unique electrical and medical imaging industry data and analysis as part of the Business Information Services team. The Senior Economist analyzes information in conjunction with macroeconomics data to discern patterns and trends that help Members make strategic and other business decisions. The incumbent works with a leading macroeconomic data service to help produce periodic economic forecasts for international growth trends and various electroindustry product shipments. The Senior Economist prepares analysis and presentations for the Chief Economist, CEO, and company executives and speaks to members and other audiences.
The position reports to the Vice President and Chief Economist and is in Arlington (Rosslyn), Virginia. Up to 5 percent time on travel is anticipated.
Key Responsibilities
Lead select economic analysis and forecasting activities
Produce quarterly Global Economic Monitor using vendor-supplied forecasts and by acquiring/applying international data from a wide variety of sources
Produce and enhance quarterly product shipments forecasts
Develop and present economic updates to NEMA Divisions, Sections, and individual members
Update and enhance economic data tables and charts included in various industry publications including the Electroindustry Economic Outlook and a publication on the economic impact of the electroindustry
Curate business intelligence articles for NEMA Intelligence Digest
Identify articles to help members make strategic and other decisions
Contribute in-house analyses on topics members regularly track
Assist in daily production of Intelligence Digest and be designated lead if/as necessary
Enhance and expand a portfolio of products and services
Improve existing offerings to add member value, especially in areas of economic analysis supporting NEMA advocacy
Conceive/develop new products relevant to members and attractive to potential members
Implement communication strategy to disseminate NEMA/BIS products and capabilities
Team with NEMA Public Affairs to use social media to publicize economic insight relevant to advocacy objectives
Provide back-up as needed for NEMA market data research activities
Vet and analyze survey data from member companies
Compile report summaries, apply disclosure rules, and disseminate to members
Assist in the design of new surveys to ensure data accuracy
Experience and Qualifications
MA/MS in Economics/Statistics or closely related field required
5 or more years professional experience…quantitative expertise a definite plus
Proficient using quantitative and qualitative methods to deliver convincing, business-relevant analytical products to participating companies
Advanced understanding of economic data releases from U.S. and other governments’ statistical agencies as well as private sources
Proven time management skills, ability to execute multiple projects against demanding timelines is essential
Skilled at performing duties effectively working independently or in teams where close self – and peer–review of work quality is norm
Ability to write and speak effectively, especially to non-technical individuals
Demonstrated commitment to self-learning to advance personal professional goals
Eager to take on new challenges, consistently evince a positive attitude and demonstrate executive presence
Possess computer literacy and advanced knowledge of database/spreadsheet, presentation, and statistical software (EViews a plus)
