This position is located in Sacramento, California.
The Section Manager (SM) works independently to manage the business of and provide support to the California Lawyers Association (CLA) Sections including Section Executive Committee Meetings, sub-committee meetings, publications, programs, special projects, networking socials, events and other duties as assigned. The Section Manager offers direction and advice to the member leaders to accomplish Section programmatic objectives consistent with the mission, goals and objectives of CLA. Section Managers provide ‘institutional memory’ on Section activities as the member leaders who serve in a voluntary capacity turn over each year. This position requires overnight, out of town travel, up to 25%. This position is located in Sacramento, CA and there it is optional to work remotely.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Be a thought partner with and act as a professional resource to member leaders to help develop Section activities
Serve as a liaison and intermediary between member leaders and others on the CLA professional team (e.g., initiatives marketing, registration, etc.) and
Ensure that others on the professional team are aware of Section decisions, events or activities that may impact them and ensure that the Section is aware of decisions, event or activities happening in other parts of CLA
Execute all logistics and operations for Section activities and programs, including preparing and presenting agendas, minutes, project status reports, and administrative reports for Section Executive Committees
Market and promote CLA activities to entice new membership and increase event attendance
Design promotional items when needed
Negotiate with outside vendors for a variety of services
Prepare and present RFP’s for services
Manage and ensure compliance with CLA operational policies and procedures
Respond promptly (within 24 hours) to member leaders’ questions, problem-solve issues that may arise and follow questions or issues through to resolution
Consult with Senior Executive Team concerning matters that may be sensitive
Serve as an organization ambassador to the Section(s) you serve, ensuring that decisions and relevant information are fully, accurately and timely communicated to member leaders
Represent CLA at programs and Section functions, coordinate Section activities with other CLA staff and outside agencies, and respond to inquiries from attorneys and the public
Coordinate the development of publicity, materials, speakers, registration and programs for all Section MCLE programs and CLA-wide programs and special events
Prepare meeting site operations including schedule of events and timelines, communicate program requirements in support of one and multi-day MCLE programs
Oversee the production and mailing of newsletters, Section pamphlets and other written materials
Examine and monitor annual budget for Sections, provide financial and budget reports, and prepare the Section year-end report
In coordination with others on the CLA professional team, manage and coordinate membership campaigns, including promotional materials
Perform other similar or related duties which may not be specifically included with this description but are consistent with the general level of the job and the responsibilities described
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or equivalent work experience in a field that develops skills relating to the functions and responsibilities of the position
Minimum five (5) years’ experience planning, organizing and managing projects and programs
Minimum two (2) years supervisory experience
Principles of meeting and event planning
Problem identification, analysis and evaluation
Principles and techniques of budget preparation and management
Principles of the development and management of educational programs
Knowledge of publicity and marketing
Meeting and trade show planning and coordination
Effective writing and oral presentation principles
Within the introductory period obtain a working knowledge of CLA and its functions and a general knowledge of other agencies and their interface with CLA
Experience working with volunteers preferable
Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal skills
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and data base management
Ability to manage multiple projects at a time
Receive and relay detailed information through verbal and/or written communications
Communicate clearly and effectively in person and in writing.
