The American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) is seeking a visionary and experienced leader to head its association. The Executive Director provides strategic leadership for the organization by working with the Executive Committee and Board of Directors to establish long-term and short-term goals and objectives. The ED plans, develops, implements, and directs organizational policies and procedures, programs, services, human resources, and finances. The Executive Director works collaboratively with members, partners, stakeholders, and government leaders to implement Board policies, and champion the clinical mental health counseling profession.
Search underway for Executive Director for 501(c)(3) professional association devoted to representing and advancing the clinical mental health counseling profession through collaboration, advocacy, research, ethical practice and education, training, and professional development. Seek individual to work with 11-member Board to create a forward-looking strategy and then moving briskly towards achieving that vision; strengthen the organization’s management to ensure it has the financial resources to thrive now and in the future; lead staff in the effective execution of approved strategies and goals; and cultivate and maintain relationships with external partners.
Position requires experience as an association executive, significant association management experience, or significant leadership of a health care agency; excellence in organizational leadership with a demonstrated record of success in fiduciary responsibility and membership growth; ability to lead and supervise a team of staff and volunteers that work remotely; experience elevating diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels of the association; experience supporting the Board of Directors in its governance role; knowledge of various board of directors committee functions /structures; experience in the mental health care or related health care industry; demonstrated evidence of successful grant-writing and other fundraising initiatives; experience in the publication of magazines and journals; knowledge of the legislative process and the ability to communicate with policymakers while building grassroots advocacy initiatives; understanding of current trends in the behavioral health field facing the needs of mental health counselors including reimbursement and delivery; ability to communicate successfully with diverse audiences across multiple platforms; excellent strategic, leadership, and operational skills; clear and effective oral, written and public speaking skills necessary to represent the association to the behavioral health community and members, proficiency in budgeting practices; ability to lead vendor contract negotiations, and competent skills using network communication tools; and documented evidence of membership recruitment and engagement success.
