The Accounting Manager is responsible for both the processing and managing of accounting functions for the SDMS and SDMS Foundation, ensuring the accuracy of receivables, payables, inventory management, and general ledger transactions and reconciliations. The Accounting Manager is responsible for producing monthly financial reports and for assisting with overall accounting data analysis. The Accounting Manager contributes to effective controls planning and implementation, quality assurance, and process analysis for continuous improvement.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare monthly financial reports for both the SDMS and the SDMS Foundation in accordance with U.S. GAAP, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures with a high attention to detail and care, ensuring minimal need for correcting entries
Process daily accounting functions, including the management and processing of accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory management, and general ledger reconciliations
Assist with the annual external audit as well as internal audits as directed by the CFO
Assist with report and dashboard design and implementation processes to facilitate effective, timely data for use by other departments
Assist with preparations of IRS Forms 990 and 990-T for the SDMS and IRS Form 990-EZ for the SDMS Foundation
Prepare sales and UBI tax reports, ensuring compliance with all state and federal requirements
Perform routine audits of SDMS Store products and assist with SDMS Store management
Assist with annual budget development, monitoring, and reporting
Coordinate and participate in testing programming/integration projects affecting SDMS accounting and customer service functions, ensuring bugs are discovered and fixed prior to general release
Assist with maintenance and upgrades to accounting, reporting, and CRM software
Assist the CFO in effective controls planning and implementation to protect against fraud
Assist the CFO in the development, management, and monitoring of internal, departmental documentation, standard operating procedures, and auditing/quality assurance processes
Support volunteers, committees, and task forces, as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
At least 3-5 years of association non-profit accounting experience
Accounting software experience required; Microsoft Dynamics GP (formerly Great Plains) experience preferred
Accounting reporting software experience required; Microsoft Management Reporter experience preferred
Association management software experience required; netForum Enterprise experience preferred
Strong Microsoft Excel experience
Experience with data analysis and accounting metrics
Strong understanding of accounting controls
Ability to problem solve and work effectively and efficiently, both independently and in a team, in a fast-paced environment to achieve outstanding results
Strong analytical, project management, and quality assurance experience with an ability to understand the big picture
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to maintain accurate and easily accessible records
Strong written/oral communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate in an open and honest manner in a collaborative team environment
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and respond to changing priorities based on deadlines and requests from volunteers, customers, and staff
Possess skill set to provide excellent customer service both internally to other departments and externally to customers
