The VPPPA is seeking an innovative, driven Membership & Outreach Manager to lead the membership department. The Membership & Outreach Manager has a responsibility to grow the Association’s membership numbers through strategies that create and deliver value propositions and leverage the full potential and scope of membership options available.
Consistent with the Association’s strategy to aggressively grow and retain its membership base, the Manager will:
Create new membership opportunities and implement member acquisition and retention campaigns to achieve sustainable growth. Oversee the development of potential member sources and lists.
Develop and maintain close communication with members that will encourage their engagement and ongoing membership in the Association.
Involve members in ongoing dialogue regarding industry issues and Association services.
Establish systems to acquire in-depth information on member companies in order to improve Association services to them.
Research the needs and interests of companies in all segments of the industry, and develop new organizational structures, products, and services to serve all categories of members and potential members.
Represent the Association in regional conferences and other events, serving in a public relations role.
Membership Strategy and Development
Develop and implement programs that increase understanding of the services and resources of the Association in a way that increases utilization and positively impacts member satisfaction.
Research opportunities for outreach and member recruitment through trade shows, professional associations, safety conferences, and other related organizations.
Develop and implement strategies to maximize the retention of active members and the re-enrollment of lapsed members.
Marketing
Produce effective member recruitment and collateral materials.
Develop and direct the new member and affiliate welcome processes, including welcome brochures, emails, and kits.
Increase member engagement within the Association via social media outreach, contests, and other actions and activities.
Outreach
Travel to represent the Association as an exhibitor at regional conferences and at other safety/health-related conferences.
Travel to participate in member events like networking events, member site events, awards, and recognition events to spread association brand awareness.
Membership Database
Backup to primary user in maintaining membership records.
Monitor membership information and reports.
Management & Administrative Actions
Develop annual work plans and manage administrative tasks, including budget development and maintenance, specialized correspondence with members, and other communication department responsibilities.
Act as liaison for the Legislative & Regulatory, Labor Management, and Member Services committees.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, public relations, marketing, English, or related field.
A minimum of 5+ years of related work experience is required, including extensive communications strategy, planning, and implementation experience gained from managing and executing successful communications efforts.
Experience working within databases, specifically MemberClicks, highly desirable.
Strong sales background with a concentration in acquiring new business is preferred.
Experience in marketing and promotion required, experience in association membership-related marketing and activities preferred.
Experience in not-for-profit or membership association preferred.

The Voluntary Protection Programs Participants' Association, Inc. (VPPPA) is the leading organization dedicated to cooperative occupational safety, health and environmental management systems. VPPPA, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is a member-based association, providing a network of more than 2,100 companies and worksites that are involved in or in the process of applying to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) or the Department of Energy's (DOE) Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP).
For over two decades, the association has provided its members a direct link to OSHA, DOE and similar agencies within state-plan states and continues to offer a support network for participants from a wide variety of industries.
