The American Accounting Association (AAA) seeks candidates for the newly created position of Data Integration Developer As a new member of the Association’s Internet Technology Department. The Data Integration Developer position is part of the Internet Technology Department (we are more IS-focused than IT), which owns the creation, onboarding, enhancement, and support of applications and integrations between AAA platforms and third-party AMS, ERP, SAAS and various custom applications and systems. Our primary customers include association membership which is comprised of Accounting PhD students, Accounting faculty, business schools focusing on accounting education, and vendors supporting these groups. Our demographics are increasingly global with each year. The IT department also provides support for internal IT/IS needs, ranging from front-line IT support, reporting, to content development and more. Our in-house IT team consists of a Data Analyst and Systems Support Coordinator, Web/Database Projects Specialist, and the Director of IT. Externally facing, we engage with a managed services provider for parts of our server and network infrastructure, and work with numerous vendor platforms across publishing, submissions systems, virtual events, and others The Data Integration Developer recruited for this position will participate in the planning, coordination, and solution development and implementation activities related to the integration of applications and technologies within the organization's application integration environment. Proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, proficiency in programming languages and data structures, and knowledge of integration best practices are critical to successful performance in this role. A great candidate will be a systems thinker and have a passion for acquiring, analyzing, and transforming data to generate insights and value. This role is very hands-on and requires a structured approach and solid implementation skills. Qualified candidates will have a strong knowledge of application integration, implementation, and data manipulation technologies. As a Data Integration Developer, you will drive the successful development of solution infrastructure and the completion of data integration projects that automate the flow of data between the American Accounting Association and other systems, or that customize AAA content and e-commerce workflows. Your efforts will be critical to driving the long-term partnership between AAA, our membership, member-volunteers, and the public. You will be primarily responsible for the solution design, delivery, and support of data integrations. You will be expected to contribute to multiple implementations simultaneously, which will include both new applications or features, as support and enhancements for members. You will work directly with our membership and on cross-functional teams to design solutions that address member and staff needs, analyze and map data files, and implement specific business rule configurations. As our organization pivots more and more to cloud solutions, an ability to create functional and empowering user interfaces to complement integrations will become essential. In addition, the position will be cross-trained against IT/IS department roles, supporting headquarters leadership and staff. Versatility and a willingness to learn across a spectrum of technology topics are key attributes of the successful candidate. THE POSITION ESSENTIALS The Data Integration Developer will: - Develop scalable and extensible approaches to data integration between AAA platforms and third-party applications.
- Actively deliver multiple cross-functional and membership projects simultaneously and resolve obstacles to completion.
- Develop and maintain robust and accurate end-to-end knowledge of business processes and applicable procedures.
- Implement and support data management and ETL solutions. Understand and interpret the business objectives and requirements in order to identify, access, and integrate data sources.
- Design and execute manual and automated tests, analyze the results, and deduce next steps. Develop testing methodologies and train AAA professional staff to assist in testing.
- Understand and participate in AAA's events and membership cycles to understand specific business requirements and contribute solutions for proposal.
Strategy & Planning The Data Integration Developer will: - Participate in planning of integration projects and corresponding strategies between AAA departments, member stakeholders, and vendors. Work with IT project teams (composed of both staff and member volunteers) to help gather business requirements to aid in the design and development of software applications and workflows.
- Provide integration environment technical knowledge and experience during the planning, execution, and management of integrating new applications into the existing application environment.
- Identify and resolve systems issues.
- Develop standards and processes to support and facilitate integration projects and initiatives.
- Identify common patterns and document best practices for integration.
The Position implementation The Data Integration Developer will implement the following: - Develop relationships with vendors of application software deployed in AAA's IT environment to both understand and provide insights/feedback on integration capabilities.
- Participate in integration testing phase of software and applications under development in order to identify and remedy potential problem areas.
- Assist in integration with / development of APIs to interact with AAA platforms / environment.
- Assist with troubleshooting and resolution efforts when operational issues with integration solutions arise.
- Implement audit, logging, and monitoring solutions to provide proactive operational support in the IT environment.
- Assist with identifying opportunities to enhance or improve business processes via integration, or, as necessary, minimize the impact of integration on those processes.
