We are looking for a relationship-focused, strategic, creative problem solver to join the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation as our Director of Education and Research.
ISHLT is the world’s largest multidisciplinary organization dedicated to improving the care of patients with advanced heart or lung disease through transplantation, mechanical support and innovative therapies. The strategies and initiatives you implement will have a direct impact on the advancement of knowledge and research to improve patient care.
ISHLT is searching for an experienced association manager to lead and administer our programs in research (including awards, grants, registries) and support the creation of an education strategy for the organization.
You will serve in a key leadership role, responsible for the development and implementation of strategy and structure that results in high quality scientific and educational content, live, published and enduring knowledge transfer, and the integration and administration of the society's promotion of and recognition for excellence in the science of interest to members.
This position will work closely with volunteers, subject matter experts and other staff members to develop products and programs relevant to an international, multidisciplinary audience. This is a new position for ISHLT and an opportunity for a highly motivated association professional to create a robust, fully integrated, data driven education and research ecosystem.
You must have a strategic approach, outstanding analytical and organizational skills, the ability to perform independently and as part of a small, high-performing team, supervisory experience, proven success managing volunteer and vendor relationships, and the ability to work at both strategic and operational levels.
You must be passionate about the processes that inform and guide curation and delivery of knowledge and research, how these activities intersect and how they improve outcomes for patients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with committees to develop strategy and programming for an interdisciplinary organization.
Conceptualize cross-medium, scientific and curriculum-based learning products, including the development of a robust virtual education delivery platform.
Maintain awareness of and be responsive to emerging trends, advancements, challenges and other topics of interest to members and stakeholders.
Continually assess program viability and develop successful business models to support goals.
Develop program assessment criteria for collaborations with related societies and other organizations.
Use a data-based decision-making approach to evaluate program data, financial information, evaluations and other datasets to direct development, planning, implementation and evaluation of all educational activities and products.
Maintain ISHLT’s accreditation through ACCME.
Manage vendors, including consultants, digital education and other platform providers, etc.
Participate in annual budget development; manage and achieve all budget targets.
Research and Registries
Serve as management lead for the Society’s registries.
Ensure compliance with privacy regulations governing data collection and use.
Manage relationships and processes with external stakeholders, including other registries, and other professional organizations and entities.
Oversee work of research and registry vendors and their contractual obligations.
Support the creation and implementation of awards programs and grants that recognize and reward excellence and support the society’s strategic goals.
Support the development of a separate ISHLT foundation that supports research, recognition of excellence and education.
Assist with portions of the strategic plan related research and registry activities.
Participate in annual budget development; manage and achieve all budget targets.
Serve as staff lead and manager of a portfolio of related committees and task forces.
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years association program leadership, ideally with healthcare-related organizations. Concentration in Instructional Design, Adult Education, Organizational Development or related field a plus.
Extensive knowledge of education development for in-person, in-print and virtual environments including learning management technology.
Ability to apply adult learning theory to curriculum development as well as a passion for adult education and/or creating innovative learning experiences.
Familiarity with grant and /or fellowship administration experience a plus.

Additional Work Requirements:
