The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) is a not-for-profit membership organization that promotes the health of women and newborns. The Staff Accountant (Part-Time) will support the Finance, Administration & Technology Department by coordinating accounting information with Sections and Chapters. Expected to treat all clients, vendors and fellow employees with professionalism, courtesy and respect. Required to maintain a positive and constructive attitude while being a team player. This is a part-time position expected to work an average of thirty hours a week to be eligible for benefits.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Section & Chapter Accounting and Processing
Reconcile and prepare balance sheet account schedules for Sections.
Assemble and ensure accuracy of financial reports for Sections.
Arrange the general ledger for Sections and Chapters.
Process Sections’ and Headquarters’ cash receipts and revenue
Manage wire transfers between accounts.
Work with auditors at year end by providing them all required audit schedules.
Assist with the preparation of monthly financial package for the Sections.
Assist interim CFO with preparation of Section’s annual budget.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as appropriate.
Section & Chapter Customer Support
Liaison with Sections and Chapters to obtain financial information and to assist with financial questions.
Interface with stake holders both inside and outside the organization to obtain and provide information.
Volunteer customer accounting support to Sections and Chapters as needed.
Provide assistance during Annual Convention or other AWHONN events.
Act as gatekeeper for Section’s Bill.com processing, including review of invoices submitted and routing to Section leaders for approval using this web-based accounts payable system.
Reports to interim CFO. Routine assignments are handled within the parameters of the defined pattern of work with periodic review. Clear guidance is given on difficult or non-routine assignments or as requested. Occasionally work is reviewed while in progress, but all work is reviewed upon completion.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent
At least 2 to 4 years of related accounting experience including working with auditors and in an association environment. Experience working with chapters and affiliates is a plus
Demonstrated ability to perform accounting tasks in a timely, complete and accurate manner with great attention to details.
Experience working with and maintaining accounting software applications specifically Sage Intacct and Bill.com.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
Proficient in MS Excel and Word.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as proven customer service skills
Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles.
Knowledge of auditing practices and principles.
Ability to use sound judgment and work independently.
Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information with tact and discretion.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision.
