The Montgomery Bar Association (MBA), is currently seeking a new Executive Director. The Executive Director serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the MBA, a professional association composed of over 2,100 attorneys and judges with an annual budget of $2+ million, and the Montgomery Bar Foundation (MBF), the charitable affiliate of the MBA. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programming, operation, planning, financial management, and public outreach for both organizations. The Executive Director reports to, and works closely with, the MBA’s Board of Directors and the MBF’s Board of Trustees.
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the MBA, and participate in all levels of the deliberative process within the association, including committees, sections, and the Board of Directors/Trustees.
Implement the policies and coordinates the programs of the MBA and MBF as they are defined by its Bylaws, Officers and Board of Directors.
Represent the MBA and maintain its strong reputation at state and national conferences and associations. This includes attending meetings and conferences throughout the year.
Effectively manage a staff of 10+.
Provide financial oversight and reporting for the MBA and MBF, which includes budgeting, auditing, preparation of financial statements, investment management, and resource management.
Seek innovative sources of non-dues revenue, as well as affinity partner relationships, and sponsorships of MBA and MBF programs and events.
Supervise the production of the Montgomery County Law Reporter, the weekly court sanctioned periodical for the county, as well as the quarterly Sidebar Magazine.
Total administrative responsibilities and oversight of MBF, including fundraising and grants.
Supervise the planning and execution of MBA and MBF social and networking events, including scheduling, contract negotiation, venue communication, staff allocation, promotion, day-of operation, and follow-up.
Ensure successful membership retention and seek ways to attract new members, especially attorneys new to the practice of law.
Program a variety of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) and Continuing Judicial Education (CJE) seminars at the MBA building throughout the year, ensuring they continue to be a viable source of non-dues revenue.
Maintain the physical upkeep of two (2) properties owned by the MBA. Responsible for working with contractors and custodians to repair and maintain the properties. Works closely with in-house caterer to maintain an on-premises restaurant and banquet areas.
Forge and maintain strong connections to community and business leaders, serving as the public face of the MBA.
Maintain strong relationship with members of the bench, including county, state, and federal judges, as well as county and state officials.
Oversee the technological operation of the MBA to ensure that we are at the forefront of advances and that we are effectively utilizing current technology to operate our association and serve our members.
Keep abreast of trends and changes affecting the legal profession and work to position the MBA as valuable and relevant to association members and members of the public.
15+ years of executive management experience;
Excellent communication skills;
Strong work ethic and leadership qualities;
Problem-solving ability, especially in a fast-paced environment;
Highly organized and a strategic thinker;
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel;
Must be computer literate with a strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and able to quickly learn a proprietary database management system;
Experience in non-profit sector, legal industry, property management, event planning, financial management and accounting a plus.
