This position uses deep knowledge, expertise and experience to oversee and guide the standards department activities including the standards development process, the standards inspection process, and the standards member education process. Analyzes technical issues that are brought to the attention of the association to decide both the political and technical impacts of issues. Establishes RVIA positions needed regarding product safety for the benefit of members. Recommends code changes when appropriate. Determines who will address issues and how they will be addressed, involving committees as needed.
Makes the final decisions, determines industry impact, directs staff, and communicates program positions to members on most standards issues. Makes determination if changes to standards or handbooks are required and initiates the process.
Attends standards maintenance committee meetings to promote and lobby for the positions of the industry, always maintaining industry integrity by working from a position of strength and knowledge on issues regarding safety.
RVIA will consider elevating the position from Director to Vice President depending on qualifications and experiences.
Position is located at the RVTI Campus in Elkhart, IN.
Required Skills & Experience:
College degree in industrial, mechanical, or electrical engineering, or architecture, or related experience (for credibility)
Leadership experience, people skills, balanced judgement, conflict management, and communication skills
Program management experience
Capability of navigating industry politics
Experience with advocacy skills
Knowledge of the ANSI standards and codes development process
Must have, or be capable of obtaining, full working knowledge of the RVIA inspection process
A proven record of accomplishment of developing a reputation for being an industry leader
Experience in successfully navigating industry and organizational politics
