ASME generates approximately $110 million annually from the sale of products and services and provides a wide range of mission focused programs and activities. We currently are seeking a Director, Section Support for our office in Houston, Texas.
The Director, Section Support is responsible for the overall management of support services for volunteer Professional and Student Sections. In this role, the Director oversees the development and implementation of service capabilities for the ASME Section Support Department, leads a staff team dedicated to group volunteer interactions, including request processing and fulfillment, and the approval of volunteer activity requests and regarding engagement with the Enterprise.
In doing so, the Director shall provide active leadership to a Section Support staff team to handle group volunteer interactions, establish the general tone, set the basic direction and priorities, integrate and coordinate the activities of staff, insure fiscal prudence and responsibility, set a norm of responsiveness and service to the volunteer leadership and maintain high standards of personal conduct and performance. This will require that the Section Support team is proactively travelling to meet with Professional and Student Sections across the world to rebuild the staff-volunteer partnership for which ASME is known.
The Director works in the Society’s matrix organization model and its culture of high-service quality and cost-effective delivery. Responsibility for maintaining an effective collaboration with staff from other Sectors and business units, as well as group volunteers, is a high priority. This relationship will support and facilitate Enterprise objectives, create more efficient processes, and assure effective use of resources.
Ideal candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, management or in a related field or additional equivalent experience. The candidate should have at least 10 years of industry and/or association management experience, five of which should include program management experience. International business development experience a plus. Previous experience in project management, event planning, and/or adult learning/training is also a plus. The incumbent must possess the ability to interact effectively with fellow staff members, including senior staff, volunteer leadership and leaders in industry, academia and government. In addition, this position requires substantial travel, including weekends.
