Summary of Position:
The Event Manager will provide support to ATD through all aspects of event development, operations, registration, exhibits & sponsorship, and onsite execution. Attractive candidates will have a strong desire to use their knowledge and skills in trade show management, sponsorship activation, registration, and logistics to develop an exceptional experience for multi-generational audiences. Reporting to the Director of Conferences & Events, the Event Manager will work to organize and execute events while focusing on enhancing our sponsorship and trade show offerings.
ATD delivers a wide variety of conferences & events each year – the largest, our International Conference and Exposition, draws over 10,000 attendees and 400+ exhibitors.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
Trade Show & Sponsorship Management
Work closely and professionally with key stakeholders (sponsors, exhibitors, sales managers, content managers) to ensure all event objectives are clearly understood, sales opportunities are well packaged and well-coordinated; serve as an advocate for the needs of the Sales team and sponsor/exhibit companies
Manage sponsorship program development for annual conventions and regional events; collaborate with the team to identify, develop and execute strategies for sponsorship and trade show deliverables including new opportunities, enhancements, and markets for offerings
Manage exhibit booth and sponsorship fulfillment process and exhibit activity at assigned events including setting up exhibitor database, communicating with exhibitors and sponsors, assigning exhibit space in coordination with the Sales team, ordering fulfillment items, signage, etc.; create, track, and manage exhibit and sponsorship financial information for events
Oversee event app and appointment scheduling system, including set-up, on-going management, customer service, on-site updates, and post-conference analytics
Assess and provide an evaluation of sponsorship and trade show programs with input from staff and relevant committees
In coordination with the team, manage all aspects of the production of assigned events and activities including agenda development, exhibit decorator, AV, catering, hotel accommodations, staffing coordination, and on-site event logistics
Collaborate with multi-departmental teams, including Marketing, Sales, Finance, Editorial, Creative, and others as appropriate, to develop logos, exhibitor prospectus, registration materials, onsite guide, show management areas, etc.
Oversee event registration and badge/ticketing processes for all events; develop onsite registration areas and procedures that minimize lines, expedite the check-in process, and delight customers; manage 3rd party registration vendor for large conferences; oversee the hiring/supervision of temporary personnel; organize staff assignments and onsite problem solving/troubleshooting

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with precision and attention to detail while continually finding ways to improve processes to produce higher quality events with more effective results

Exceptional customer service
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with special attention to detailed editing of promotional materials, website, and print pieces
Organized, detail oriented; able to meet deadlines, multitask in a fast-paced environment; excellent time management and prioritization skills
Ability to problem-solve and make on-the-spot decisions while consulting and involving the appropriate stakeholders
Minimum of 4-6 years in event management with 2-3 years working with trade shows/exhibitions
CEM or CMP preferred but not required
Bachelor's degree required
Staff supervisory experience helpful but not required
Microsoft Office suite program experience (Outlook, Excel, OneDrive) especially Excel and spreadsheet experience
Experience with Map Your Show (or similar trade show management tool), Personify, and mobile app providers a plus – willingness to learn is required
Travel required for Annual Conventions, Regional events, and site visits as required
