The assistant director develops, in collaboration with the senior director of research and policy analysis and another assistant director, the annual plan for research at the association. This includes identification and implementation of new and continuing research projects, surveys, and data collection efforts. The assistant director serves in the association’s Advocacy, Research, and Communications department, and works collaboratively with staff throughout the organization to deliver innovative, high quality programs, products and services for the membership and other stakeholders. The incumbent supports the association’s knowledge management function by coordinating the distribution and collection of NACUBO surveys, examining the initial outcomes of data and information collected by the association, and facilitating the completion of the analysis and dissemination of research results.

The incumbent will:
• Co-direct the association’s annual Student Financial Services, Tuition Discounting Study, and other research studies, data collection efforts, and data reporting efforts as needed; • Collaborate with the senior director of research and policy analysis and other members of the ARC staff to develop and implement a research agenda; • Use and analyze federal education survey data (e.g., IPEDS, NPSAS, etc.) to supplement data collected from various NACUBO surveys; • Search and review literature, websites, references, and other resources for information and data to: contribute to the development of new research proposals; support existing research projects; enhance the association’s website; and assist in responding to member requests for information; • Collect information from various published and unpublished sources, e.g. contact association members and partner organizations, federal agencies, higher education experts, institutional researchers and others; • Solicit advice from staff and expert members in the field in the preliminary stages of survey design; • Provide technical expertise on best methods for optimizing survey design and data collection; • Develop communications to optimize survey participation including those used for the association’s website, Current (association e-newsletter), and other member communications; • Develop presentations, webcasts, podcasts, infographics, and reports that communicate the results of NACUBO research to members and other groups; • Create and manage NACUBO surveys via various online tools (e.g., Qualtrics); and manage survey data collection (e.g. tracking responses, following up with incomplete respondents; and acting as staff liaison for member inquiries); • Manipulate and analyze statistical data through use of Excel, Stata, and SPSS; • Identify key issues and findings resulting from data analysis of NACUBO studies; • Prepare clear and concise summaries or abstracts about NACUBO research and external research studies that are relevant to the association’s membership for member communications; • Maintain research project records including computer and paper correspondence files, contact information, data and document files, collected and organized research materials, project notes, status reports, draft reports and final reports; • Manage and update research-related pages on the NACUBO website; • Manage the association’s relationship with outside vendors and consultants to ensure satisfactory and timely completion of research projects; • Serve as the technical contact for members participating in NACUBO research studies; • Provide research assistance in responding to members requesting data from NACUBO research projects; • Represent NACUBO at various research-related meetings; participate in research association functions, when possible; monitor and report on news regarding research-related issues; • Develop research-related articles for Business Officer magazine, NACUBO website, and other publications • Perform other tasks as assigned.
This is a full-time regular position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. There may be occasional evening and weekend work as job duties or projects require it.
Travel is primarily local during the business day, however, some out of the area travel and overnight may be expected.

• Graduate degree at an accredited four-year college or university, with coursework in business and finance, economics, statistics, and/or research methods. • 3-5 years of experience as an analyst in a higher education institution, association, or related organization. • 3-5 year of experience with federal survey datasets, such as IPEDS and NPSAS or similar datasets. • 3-5 years of experience managing national survey projects and/or data analysis reporting strongly preferred. • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in survey design and implementation • Demonstrated experience with Excel and SPSS. • Demonstrated ability to interpret statistical data, charts, and tables and effectively communicate research results. • Demonstrated experience in quantitative/analytic research skills (e.g., inferential statistics, T-tests, other tests of statistical significance) preferred. • Knowledge of Tableau or other data visualization tools/software preferred. • Ability to work well with fellow staff, association members, and other external groups in an appropriate and professional manner. • Demonstrated willingness/experience speaking with news media about NACUBO research results; • Demonstrated willingness to perform a wide range of tasks, from administrative to analytical, as needed and assigned.
This position works in a professional office environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers.
This position works in a climate-controlled environment but internal office temperatures may fluctuate.
