Job Description

The American Academy of Actuaries seeks an experienced communications professional to direct media relations and external communications programs. Reporting to the Director of Communications, the successful candidate will work with members of the senior staff and volunteer leadership in formulating strategies and tactics on all external communications issues of importance to the profession. This includes, but is not limited to, media relations (traditional, digital, and social media), promotional and publicity programs, the newsroom section of the Academy website, video programming, speechwriting, speakers bureau, and assistance with coordinating organization-wide special events.


Requirements

Minimum of seven years’ experience in strategic communications is preferred and previous management experience is a plus. Experience in banking, insurance, associations, and/or journalism is strongly preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field required. Proven record of accomplishment in media relations and strategic communications required. Exceptional written and oral communications skills, with the ability to make complex technical material comprehensible to a general audience, required.  Title and compensation to be determined based on relevant experience.
